If you want to take a chance during high season, be warned that getting accommodation can give you more than one headache, or feet ache! You may find a place to stay, but it might be after several hours of walking around Pucon. Therefore, if you are planning on staying during important dates or holidays, make sure you make a booking in advance.
Summer weather :
When traveling to Pucon, or indeed to any city of the south of Chile, you need to be prepared for emergencies. Even in the middle of summer it does not hurt to bring along a wind jacket and / or thin polar jacket. Don't forget your sun block lotion and swimsuit!.
During autumn and winter :
It is vital to bring a hat for the cold wind, waterproof shoes, and a good polar coat or snow clothes. If you are planning to climb the volcano to do snowshoeing, or another sport, you may rent equipment, boots and clothing and even mist-proof glasses at the travel agencies. Don't forget your sun block lotion and lip balm.
If you are going to visit the areas near Pucon, always ask about the last available bus because during the winter they vary depending on the weather conditions. During the summer the frequency is higher, but the latest bus coming back is usually at 20:00.
For those doing fishing it is compulsory to hold a valid license. If you don't have one you can apply for one at the Tourism office of the municipality.
It is safe to drink tap water, but if you are not accustomed and come from another country, you might want to drink bottled mineral water available at any convenience store to avoid any adjustment discomfort.
Before deciding on a tour around the area or a higher risk outdoor activity, find out about the safety and security guidelines offered by different agencies and choose the one that adjusts to your expectations.
