Pucon is situated at the foot of the majestic Villarrica Volcano, in the Ninth Region of Araucania—only 60 miles (100 km) from Temuco (the capital of the region) and 540 miles (870 km) from Santiago de Chile. The border with Argentina, called Mamuil Malal / Tromen, is only about 55 miles (90 km) away.

Positioned at the foothills among lakes, rivers, national parks and hot springs, this small, beautiful town has become the favorite site for those in search of entertainment, adrenaline, relaxing, nature and networking, to name a few.

To describe a dynamic city like Pucon we must consider the time of the year it is visited. You can find a peaceful, airy Pucon with convenient offers during the low season, which is March to November. The thermal centers and snowed surroundings are stunning sites where you can wander amidst the snow and water vapor wearing only a swimsuit!

With the winter holidays and the opening of the snow season (July to October 12th) bustling life comes back to the streets of Pucon. The climate is once again mountain-like, and people from all over Chile, Brazil and Argentina come searching for powder snow to glide with skill and style down the skirts of the Villarrica Volcano and other mountains. There are also those with a passion for photography, who during that time can make ideal postcards from the Volcano and its sunsets.

But without a doubt it is the New Year's celebrations and the summer holidays that bring the largest amount of visitors. It is estimated that for this season there are around 16,000 tourists, concentrating the largest amount of visitors for Christmas and New Year. Afterwards they rotate on a bi-weekly basis. A flux that allows to satisfy the demand for accommodation, as there are five star hotels, hostels, B&Bs and lodging, also considering many of the Pucon homes transform into homesteads, giving the tourist families varied options according to their budgets.

As in any city in the South, weather is an unpredictable factor. An anecdote about this is that no meteorology site can forecast weather as precisely as the "cloud hat" phenomenon that forms over the Volcano's crater and that announces infallible rain. This natural phenomenon can be seen only on cloudy to partially cloudy or clear days.

The charm of a holiday in Pucon lies in the unexpected— at every corner of its main roads you can find a different invitation: climbing the active volcano, rafting, ethnotourism, canopying, hot springs, paintball, as well as culinary invitations that range from traditional home-made food to sushi and fusion food. It is a matter of deciding. Dance till you drop in a club, wait for sunrise lying on the beach, or both, it all depends on your enthusiasm.
